Instructions for translators

This project is used for the translation of the AntennaPod website. New source strings are automatically pushed to Weblate. Once in a while we review the translations and push them to our website. Once quality and coverage is deemed high enough, we (manually) enable a language on the live website.

Please follow the translation guidelines below. This will help ensure accuracy and avoid mistakes.

  1. Machine translation: Please do not use machine translation without reviewing and editing.

  2. Understand the context: Try the app and understand the context before you start translating.

  3. Be consistent: Use consistent terminology, tone, and style (grammar, punctuation, capitalization) throughout the translation.

  4. Be concise: Translations should be concise and to the point. Avoid using long sentences or complex words that may be difficult to understand.

  5. Use simple language: Use simple language that is easy to understand. Avoid using jargon or technical terms.

  6. Be culturally sensitive: Avoid using language that may be offensive or inappropriate. Use gender-neutral language whenever possible.

  7. Proofread: Always proofread your translations before submitting them.

  8. Be aware of character limits: Make sure your translations fit into the space available.

  9. Communicate with developers: Use our forum to communicate with developers to ensure that translations are implemented correctly.

  10. Get feedback: Get feedback from other translators to improve translations over time. If you are unsure about a translation, use our forum to get clarification.

Do you want a new language to be added? Please request it on our forum. The reason that we have this process is that we want to know key translators of our website, in order to facilitate our quality control process. Thank you for your understanding and interest!

Hi!

Thanks for contributing on the translations for AntennaPod.

Did you know we have a user forum? We would like you to say hello so we can get to know better the people that translates and coordinate the work, so it’s easier for everyone to help and to have a picture of who contributes with what.

If this sounds like a good idea to you, you can take a peek around the this thread and create a post, introducing yourself and saying what you’ve done or what you would like to help with.

Dear AntennaPod translators,

thank you so much for contributing! We are getting closer to releasing AntennaPod 3.7.0 soon. Therefore, now is the perfect time to complete the translations ;) Because of recent synchronization problems between GitHub and Weblate, there is a larger number of failing checks than usual. It would be great if you could pay attention to the list of failing checks here: https://hosted.weblate.org/checks/-/antennapod/app/

Most importantly, please have a look at the strings failing the "missing plurals" and "java format" checks, as these could lead to app crashes or missing text. https://hosted.weblate.org/checks/plurals/antennapod/app/ https://hosted.weblate.org/checks/java_printf_format/antennapod/app/

Thanks again! Hans-Peter (@ByteHamster)

Hello everyone!

Today, September 30th, is UN International Translation Day (https://www.un.org/en/observances/international-translation-day).

We'd like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU all for your continued help and support in translating AntennaPod into different languages to make it accessible to as many users around the world as possible. Knowing more than one language is already an achievement in itself, and being able to translate content accurately and precisely is another. We really appreciate your support and we wish you a very happy International Translation Day!

We'd like to take this occasion to invite you to a special edition of our monthly community call. Normally we discuss anything related to AntennaPod, but this time round we want to focus on translators (that's you!) and translations. It'll be a great opportunity to meet the people behind AntennaPod (and for us to meet you!), ask us anything about Weblate, Transifex and localisation, or share your feedback & feature requests for the app.

It will take place on Saturday, October 14th, at 6:00 PM (18:00) CEST. You can join us on https://meet.antennapod.com/CommunityCall. Want to get a reminder? Then go to https://antennapod.org/events/community-meeting and tap on 'Add to calendar'!

If you have any questions or comments in the meantime, please don't hesitate to bring them up on our forum (https://forum.antennapod.org/).

Thanks for all your help, we really appreciate it! We hope to see you in two weeks!

Frank on behalf of the AntennaPod team
