On the client side, the configuration for the <emphasis>libpam-ldapd</emphasis> and <emphasis>libnss-ldapd</emphasis> modules needs to be modified to use an <literal>ldaps://</literal> URI.

Installing <emphasis role="pkg">libpam-ldapd</emphasis> automatically adapts the default PAM configuration defined in the <filename>/etc/pam.d/common-auth</filename>, <filename>/etc/pam.d/common-password</filename> and <filename>/etc/pam.d/common-account</filename> files. This mechanism uses the dedicated <command>pam-auth-update</command> tool (provided by the <emphasis role="pkg">libpam-runtime</emphasis> package). This tool can also be run by the administrator should they wish to enable or disable PAM modules.
Installering av <emphasis role="pkg">libpam-ldap</emphasis> tilpasser automatisk standard PAM-oppsettet som er definert i <filename>/etc/pam.d/common-auth</filename>, <filename>/etc/pam.d/common-password</filename> og <filename>/etc/pam.d/common-account</filename>-filene. Denne mekanisme bruker det øremerkede <command>pam-auth-update</command>-verktøyet (levert av <emphasis role="pkg">libpam-runtime</emphasis>-pakken). Dette verktøyet kan også kjøres av administratoren dersom de ønsker å aktivere eller deaktivere PAM-moduler.

Installing this package asks a few questions very similar to those in <emphasis role="pkg">libnss-ldapd</emphasis>; some configuration parameters (such as the URI for the LDAP server) are even actually shared with the <emphasis role="pkg">libnss-ldapd</emphasis> package.
LDAP-modulen for PAM leveres av <emphasis role="pkg">libpam-ldap</emphasis>-pakken. Å installere denne pakken stiller noen spørsmål som er svært lik dem i <emphasis role="pkg">libnss-ldap</emphasis>.
