Instructions for translators

Thanks for helping to translate Ouisync!

To get started:

  1. Make an account on Weblate or sign in with your Github or Gitlab ID. Note: Account creation is not required, but you will only be able to suggest translations in this case

  2. Visit the Ouisync project page - which lists all components and their strings (including Android app strings, the web browser extension, the User Manual and the website).

  3. On the OuiSync project page's 'Languages' tab, choose the language you want to work on, or -- in case the language doesn't exist yet -- initiate a new language by selecting a component from the main project page and clicking on the "Start a new translation" button. Please note that we can't support shipping arbitrary translations with our published materials unless they have a reviewer (see below).

  4. Please contact the Ouisync team at support AT ouisync DOT net if you are interested in becoming a reviewer for translation(s) in your language(s).

  5. For more information about how to use Weblate, see the Weblate documentation.

You do not have to worry about conflicts between various replicas: in the backend, syncing is done in such a way as to avoid conflicts and divergences. What you see when you open Ouisync is what we call a “snapshot”: your view of the whole directory tree at a particular moment in time. Each modification of the file system (on your device or on your peers’ devices) results in a new “snapshot.”

When you share a repository with your peer, this creates a “replica” of your repository. The repository structure is stored in the so-called “index” files - when peer devices are connecting, they first exchange those indexes. If something has been modified in one of the replicas, Ouisync will download the missing blocks. Ouisync always first downloads directories and only after the files themselves. This helps Ouisync to correctly rebuild your data from blocks without messing it up. In addition, this is done without leaking information to users who have no “read” access to your repositories.
Коли ви надаєте спільний доступ до сховища одноранговим пристроям, це створює "копію" вашого сховища. Структура сховища зберігається у так званих "індексних" файлах - коли однорангові пристрої підключаються, вони спочатку обмінюються цими індексами. Якщо щось було змінено в одній з реплік, Ouisync завантажить відсутні блоки. Ouisync завжди спочатку завантажує каталоги, а вже потім самі файли. Це допомагає Ouisync правильно відновити ваші дані з блоків, не зіпсувавши їх. Крім того, це робиться без витоку інформації користувачам, які не мають доступу "на читання" до ваших сховищ.

A linear set of blocks shall be called a blob. Blobs can represent files and directories. The file blob is the simpler one: it consists of a header containing the file size, permissions and a timestamp. The directory blob represents a list of file names present in a directory, as well as locators pointing to the individual file blobs.
Лінійний набір блоків називається блобом (згусток). Блоби можуть представляти файли і каталоги. Файловий блок є найпростішим: він складається із заголовка, що містить розмір файлу, дозволи та мітку часу.
