Instructions for translators

This project is used for the translation of the AntennaPod website. New source strings are automatically pushed to Weblate. Once in a while we review the translations and push them to our website. Once quality and coverage is deemed high enough, we (manually) enable a language on the live website.

Please follow the translation guidelines below. This will help ensure accuracy and avoid mistakes.

  1. Machine translation: Please do not use machine translation without reviewing and editing.
  2. Understand the context: Try the app and understand the context before you start translating.
  3. Be consistent: Use consistent terminology, tone, and style (grammar, punctuation, capitalization) throughout the translation.
  4. Be concise: Translations should be concise and to the point. Avoid using long sentences or complex words that may be difficult to understand.
  5. Use simple language: Use simple language that is easy to understand. Avoid using jargon or technical terms.
  6. Be culturally sensitive: Avoid using language that may be offensive or inappropriate. Use gender-neutral language whenever possible.
  7. Proofread: Always proofread your translations before submitting them.
  8. Be aware of character limits: Make sure your translations fit into the space available.
  9. Communicate with developers: Use our forum to communicate with developers to ensure that translations are implemented correctly.
  10. Get feedback: Get feedback from other translators to improve translations over time. If you are unsure about a translation, use our forum to get clarification.

Do you want a new language to be added? Please request it on our forum. The reason that we have this process is that we want to know key translators of our website, in order to facilitate our quality control process. Thank you for your understanding and interest!

To help organize your subscriptions you can assign tags (sometimes called groups or categories) to a podcast. Please note that for the moment it is not possible to create queues based on tags. This would require support for multiple queues first. (See also the [feature request](https://github.com/AntennaPod/AntennaPod/issues/2648) on our development platform.)

If you have a physical ('hardware') keyboard connected to your phone or tablet, you can use certain shortcuts to control playback in AntennaPod. Volume and (un)mute actions affect the audio channel for media (rather than, for example, the one for notifications).

You can always use the fast forward button in AntennaPod to skip the ads. If you are streaming an episode instead of downloading, the hosting company has an idea of how far you are in the podcast. It might be possible that the company detects the fact that you skipped the ad and insert a new one. If you instead download the episode, they cannot do that and you can skip the ads more reliably. (Downloading is also better for your privacy because then the hosting company does not know when you listen to which section of the episode. AntennaPod can be configured to automatically download and later delete episodes, so you don't have to do that manually.)
Du kan alltid bruke hurtigspolingsknappen i AntennaPod for å hoppe over annonsene. Hvis du strømmer en episode i stedet for å laste ned, har vertsselskapet en idé om hvor langt du er kommet i podkasten. If AntennaPod detects a broken database, it writes it to a file named CorruptedDatabaseBackup.db in the app storage directory. You can attempt to repair this file (or repair an exported backup) using one of the steps below. This is a challenge and requires learning how to deal with a terminal.
