The critical thing about Trusted Computing is that <strong>you cannot decide</strong> what is trustworthy and what is not. For example, your computer might refuse to run programs that are not certified by the software company &ndash; programs that could enable you to take documents out of the office, or play your neighbour's DVD, or send your essay to someone not using the same program.

Companies like Microsoft like to assimilate their software to physical products, when mentioning copyright infringement for example. Yet, proprietary software is very different because of the restrictive license &ndash; such restrictions would be unthinkable on a car or bicycle, for example.
