Instructions for translators

This project is used for the translation of the AntennaPod website. New source strings are automatically pushed to Weblate. Once in a while we review the translations and push them to our website. Once quality and coverage is deemed high enough, we (manually) enable a language on the live website.

Please follow the translation guidelines below. This will help ensure accuracy and avoid mistakes.

  1. Machine translation: Please do not use machine translation without reviewing and editing.
  2. Understand the context: Try the app and understand the context before you start translating.
  3. Be consistent: Use consistent terminology, tone, and style (grammar, punctuation, capitalization) throughout the translation.
  4. Be concise: Translations should be concise and to the point. Avoid using long sentences or complex words that may be difficult to understand.
  5. Use simple language: Use simple language that is easy to understand. Avoid using jargon or technical terms.
  6. Be culturally sensitive: Avoid using language that may be offensive or inappropriate. Use gender-neutral language whenever possible.
  7. Proofread: Always proofread your translations before submitting them.
  8. Be aware of character limits: Make sure your translations fit into the space available.
  9. Communicate with developers: Use our forum to communicate with developers to ensure that translations are implemented correctly.
  10. Get feedback: Get feedback from other translators to improve translations over time. If you are unsure about a translation, use our forum to get clarification.

Do you want a new language to be added? Please request it on our forum. The reason that we have this process is that we want to know key translators of our website, in order to facilitate our quality control process. Thank you for your understanding and interest!

If the new version is in beta, it is *only* available through Google Play ([here is why](/documentation/general/beta)). When we think it's ready we upload it to Google Play. A few days later, when we're confident there are no critical bugs, we tag the release on GitHub. F-Droid then has to find out about this release, build it and make it available. All these steps may take some time. Due to the different steps and because we are not involved in publishing releases on F-Droid, we can't tell when exactly the latest version will be available there. It usually takes a few days after the release is tagged on GitHub.

Google: If you have activated backup & reset in your phone settings (`Settings` » `Backup & Reset` » `Back up my data`), you should be aware that Android itself will periodically save a copy of your phone's data in Google's servers. This backup contains private information, including your WiFi passwords, messages and call history. It may also include data from AntennaPod and from other apps you use. The developers of AntennaPod do not have access to this data. For more information, see [Google's privacy policy](https://policies.google.com).

Synchronisation services: When enabled via the settings, AntennaPod synchronises your data. This data may include login credentials, subscribed podcasts, listened episodes, play, pause & favorite actions with date & time stamps and IP address. Discovery and search services: When opening the Discover screen in the app, it sends a call to Apple to collect podcast suggestions. They may store the query, including country (which by default is the device's country). These suggestions can be disabled by choosing "off" in the region selector. When using the search feature in AntennaPod, the services PodcastIndex.org, iTunes, fyyd and gpodder.net may store your query, including the search terms. Discovery and search queries also include IP address, time, and app name "AntennaPod". After subscribing, the feed is served from the podcast hoster, meaning the discovery/search service is no longer involved.

Podcast hosters: When provided in the podcast settings, a host will receive authentication data you provided. Any web servers that provide the podcast feeds might collect additional data, such as your IP address, access time and what is being accessed. This includes the episodes you are downloading or streaming. Please refer to their respective privacy policies for details. You can view the URL of a podcast by opening the podcast and pressing the info icon. AntennaPod does not allow remote servers to set cookies. The servers can detect the fact that you are using AntennaPod and which version of AntennaPod you are using (HTTP User-Agent). If multiple podcasts are hosted on the same server, the server can detect the list of podcasts that you subscribed to and that are hosted on that server. This might happen if publishers use feedburner, podtrac or similar services to distribute their feeds.
