	The Debian project frequently releases new stable versions of their distribution, rendering old releases eventually outdated and unsupported (see <xref linkend="sect.release-lifecycle" />). The repositories belonging to these releases are then removed from the official mirrors, but can still be accessed using the service at <ulink url="https://www.debian.org/distrib/archive.en"><literal>archive.debian.org</literal></ulink>. Note, that this service allows access to any of the old Debian releases, but does not provide the source package for every binary package offered.
	The <ulink url="https://snapshot.debian.org"><literal>snapshot.debian.org</literal></ulink> service, introduced in April 2010, can be used to “go backwards in time” and to find an old binary or source version of a package not longer contained in the Debian archives. It can be used, for example, to identify which version of a package introduced a regression, and more concretely, to come back to the former version while waiting for the regression fix. This service does not only offer source and binary packages from older releases, but also versions superseeded by regular maintainer uploads. 	When an entire network of machines is configured to use the same remote server to download the same updated packages, any administrator knows that it would be beneficial to have an intermediate proxy acting as a network-local cache (see sidebar <xref linkend="sidebar.cache" />).	Když je celá síť zařízení nastavena na použití stejného vzdáleného serveru ke stahování stejných aktualizovaných balíčků, každý administrátor ví, že by bylo prospěšné mít prostřední proxy, který plní úlohu cache lokální sítě (více v poznámce na straně <xref linkend="sidebar.cache" />).
	You can configure APT to use a "standard" proxy (see <xref linkend="sect.apt-config" /> for the APT side, and <xref linkend="sect.http-ftp-proxy" /> for the proxy side), but the Debian ecosystem offers better options to solve this problem. The dedicated software presented in this section are smarter than a plain proxy cache because they can rely on the specific structure of APT repositories (for instance they know when individual files are obsolete or not, and thus adjust the time during which they are kept).
