Instructions de traduction

Afin de garantir une traduction uniforme et cohérente, un certain nombre de lignes directrices sont à respecter lors de la traduction du projet en français.

Typographie

La traduction doit respecter les règles typographiques françaises, à savoir :

  • L’usage des signes typographiques appropriés : apostrophes courbes ’, guillemets « et », tirets courts - et moyens – (nous déconseillons l’usage du tiret long —), points de suspension … (en un seul caractère) ;
  • L’usage des espaces typographiques appropriées : l’espace insécable   devant : ou entre un nombre et son unité, et l’espace insécable fine   devant ;, !, ?, », et après « ;
  • Les règles standards de typographie.

Neutralisation

Il est demandé d’essayer le plus possible de trouver des périphrases ou des termes épicènes pour ne pas marquer les mots qualifiant des personnes d’une terminaison masculine lorsque des termes neutres existent. Pour assurer la concision et la lisibilité par le plus grand nombre, il est demandé de ne pas recourir à des formes contractées, des doubles flexions ou des flexions neutres. L’utilisation du masculin par défaut est, bien que non consensuelle, suggérée lorsqu’il est impossible de satisfaire aux contraintes précédemment énoncées. Par exemple, lorsque « user » a un contexte tel que seuls « utilisateur » et « utilisatrice » conviendraient à sa traduction, il est demandé de choisir « utilisateur ».

Anglicismes

Certains anglicismes ne doivent pas être traduits. Veuillez vous référer au glossaire et prendre en compte ses suggestions. Le choix de traduire « OS » et « VM » dans leur forme longue en français est laissé à la discrétion du traducteur.

Variantes orthographiques

Certains mots ont des variantes orthographiques qu’il convient d’uniformiser. Veuillez vous référer au glossaire et prendre en compte ses suggestions. De manière générale, les mots composés doivent être écrits avec leur orthographe moderne.

Style

  • La description des commandes doit, comme dans la version originale, se faire à l’infinitif. Cependant, pour une question de clarté, il est recommandé de passer la description au singulier, à l’exception des descriptions débutant par « Manage » ;
  • Les négatifs en « ne + <verbe> » sont à proscrire en faveur de « ne pas + <verbe> ».

Translations MUST be carried out by humans fluent in the target language. While the help of automated and generative tools may be welcome to improve writing style and typography, it is expected of translators to manually go through everything they did not write themselves and apply their expertise, as a fluent or native speaker and writer. Should additional language-specific rules be laid down in localized subprojects, they MUST be followed to ensure consistency across the whole translation.
