At OW2, an initiative is a joint effort to address a market need. The [Good Governance Initiative](https://www.ow2.org/view/OSS_Governance) proposes a methodological framework to implement professional management of open source software within organisations.
Chez OW2, une initiative est un effort commun pour satisfaire un besoin professionnel. L’initiative [OSS Good Governance](https://www.ow2.org/view/OSS_Governance) propose un cadre méthodologique pour mettre en place une gestion professionnelle de l’open source au sein d’une organisation.
The Good Governance initiative is based on a comprehensive model inspired by the popular Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of human needs and motivations, as illustrated by the picture below.
L’initiative « Good Governance » est basée sur un modèle détaillé inspiré par la célèbre pyramide d’Abraham Maslow pour décrire les motivations humaines, comme illustré par l’image ci-dessous.

Through ideas, guidelines and activities the Good Governance initiative provides a blueprint for the implementation of organisational entities tasked with professional management of open source software, what is also called OSPO (for Open Source Program Offices). The methodology is also a management system to define priorities, and monitor and share progress.
Par les idées, directives et activités qu’elle propose, l’initiative « Good Governance » est un schéma directeur de mise en place d’entités chargées de la gestion des logiciels open source, habituellement appelées OSPO (pour « Open Source Program Office »). La méthode est aussi un système de management pour définir des priorités, assurer le suivi et partager les progrès réalisés.
As they implement the OSS Good Governance methodology, organisations will enhance their skills in a number of directions, including:

**using** open source software properly and safely within the company to improve software reuse and maintainability and software development velocity;

**mitigating** the legal and technical risks associated with external code and collaboration;

**identifying** required training for teams, from developers to team leaders and managers, so everybody shares the same vision;
