Instructions for translators

Do not translate variables names

Some translations include variables: a few examples of variables you can come across: {number}, {code}, {url}...

Localization is better than Internationalization

”Localization refers to the adaptation of a product, application or document content to meet the language, cultural and other requirements of a specific target market (a locale).”

Jeff Beatty on Mozilla's blog

Plurals

Plurals are separated by a |: eg: Chapter | Chapters or Mark previous chapters as read | Mark previous chapter as read.

If your language doesn't use plural in a string you can just omit it: eg: as opposed to english Cat | Cats

If you are unsure just look at the context image / explanation

Formal / Informal

Fukayo translations are mostly written in formal language, but sometimes (eg. during setup) we use something in between formal and informal.

  • Informal but no slang

  • Formal but no honorifics

These "rules" can be ignored if they don't comply with the localization guideline

Words to be aware of:

The words source and mirror are interchangeable as they are both used to describe from which website the data is pulled. Always use the closest equivalent to the word "source". (latin: surgere)
