The Astronomy tool can be used to see when the sun or moon is up. It can also be used to know when astronomical events are happening, such as a meteor shower or lunar eclipse.

With the exception of the time until sunrise or sunset (always today), all information shown on the page is for the selected date. By default, today is selected, but you can change it by tapping the calendar icon at the top of the screen. On the calendar, you will see the moon phase, meteor showers, and eclipses for each day. Additionally, you can use the arrows to move to the next/previous date or long press the calendar to quickly jump to today's date.

You can also click the search icon to find the next occurrence of an astronomical event at your location, such as the next full moon or meteor shower.

## Time until sunrise/sunset

The time until sunrise or sunset is shown at the top of the screen. This respects the 'Sunrise/sunset times' in Settings > Astronomy. For a description of each time, see the Sun section below.

## Chart
The chart shows the position of the sun and moon throughout the day. The X-axis is time, and the Y-axis is the altitude or height in the sky. You can tap on the sun or moon icon in the chart to see its current position. When you do this, a slider will appear so you can see its position at a different time of the day.

You can also choose to keep the current time centered in the chart by enabling 'Keep sun/moon centered' in Settings > Astronomy. This will keep the current time centered in the chart when you have today selected and will show 12 hours before and after the current time. If you have a different date selected, it will show the entire day instead.

## Sun
All times related to the sun respect the 'Sunrise/sunset times' in Settings > Astronomy. For a description of each time, see below.

The time until sunrise or sunset is shown at the top of the screen.

The time of sunrise, sunset, and noon is shown below the chart, as well as the length of the day. If you tap this section, you will see more details about the sun for the current day:

- **Actual**: This is the actual time of sunrise, sunset, and noon. It is the time when the sun is at the horizon.
- **Civil**: This is the time of sunrise, sunset, and noon when the sun is between 0 and 6 degrees below the horizon. There is enough light to see objects clearly.
- **Nautical**: This is the time of sunrise, sunset, and noon when the sun is between 6 and 12 degrees below the horizon. The horizon is still visible, but it is too dark to see objects clearly.
- **Astronomical**: This is the time of sunrise, sunset, and noon when the sun is between 12 and 18 degrees below the horizon. It is completely dark, but it is perfect for stargazing.
- **Peak altitude**: This is the highest point the sun reaches in the sky. It is shown in degrees above the horizon.
- **Daylight**: This is the amount of time when the sun is up.
- **Night**: This is the amount of time when the sun is down.
- **Season**: This is the astronomical season based on the Earth's position around the sun. It will be one of the following: spring, summer, fall, or winter.
- **Altitude**: This is the current angle of the sun above the horizon. It is shown in degrees.
- **Direction**: This is the current direction the sun is in. It is shown in degrees.

## Moon
The time of moonrise, moonset, and lunar noon are shown below the chart, as well as the current moon phase and illumination percentage. If you tap this section, you will see more details about the moon for the current day:

- **Times**: This is the time of moonrise, moonset, and lunar noon.
- **Moon phase**: This is the current phase of the moon as it appears in the sky.
- **Illumination**: This is the percentage of the moon that is illuminated. A full moon is 100% illuminated, and a new moon is 0% illuminated.
- **Peak altitude**: This is the highest point the moon reaches in the sky. It is shown in degrees above the horizon.
- **Supermoon**: This is when the moon is closer to the Earth than normal, making it appear larger and brighter in the sky.

## Meteor showers
If a meteor shower peak is happening on the selected date at your location, it will show in the list. It displays the start, peak, and end times of the shower, as well as the average number of meteors per hour. You can tap on the shower to see more details:

- **Times**: This is the start, peak, and end times of the shower.
- **Name**: This is the name of the shower.
- **Rate**: This is the average number of meteors per hour.
- **Peak altitude**: This is the highest point the radiant (area where the meteors appear to come from) reaches in the sky. It is shown in degrees above the horizon.
- **Peak direction**: This is the direction the radiant is in.

## Lunar eclipses
If a lunar eclipse is happening on the selected date at your location, it will show in the list. It displays the start, peak, and end times of the eclipse, as well as how much of the moon is eclipsed. You can tap on the eclipse to see more details:

- **Times**: This is the start, peak, and end times of the eclipse.
- **Duration**: This is the duration of the eclipse.
- **Obscuration**: This is the percentage of the moon that is eclipsed.
- **Magnitude**: This is the magnitude of the eclipse. It is the fraction of the moon's diameter that is eclipsed.
- **Peak altitude**: This is the altitude of the moon at the peak of the eclipse. It is shown in degrees above the horizon.
- **Peak direction**: This is the direction the moon is in at the peak of the eclipse.

## Solar eclipses
If a solar eclipse is happening on the selected date at your location, it will show in the list. It displays the start, peak, and end times of the eclipse, as well as how much of the sun is eclipsed. You can tap on the eclipse to see more details:

- **Times**: This is the start, peak, and end times of the eclipse.
- **Duration**: This is the duration of the eclipse.
- **Obscuration**: This is the percentage of the sun that is eclipsed.
- **Magnitude**: This is the magnitude of the eclipse. It is the fraction of the sun's diameter that is eclipsed.
- **Peak altitude**: This is the altitude of the sun at the peak of the eclipse, shown in degrees above the horizon.
- **Peak direction**: This is the direction the sun is in at the peak of the eclipse.

## Sunset alerts
Alerts can be set for sunset to avoid being caught outside in the dark. To set an alert, open Settings > Astronomy and enable 'Sunset alerts'. You can adjust the 'Sunset alert time' setting to determine how far in advance you want to be notified. There is also a quick action available for the sunset alert. See below for more information.

## Astronomy alerts
Alerts can be set for astronomical events to ensure you don't miss them. To set an alert, open Settings > Astronomy and enable the alerts you want to be notified about for your location. You can receive notifications for meteor showers, lunar eclipses, and solar eclipses. The alert will be shown up to 24 hours in advance of the event start time.

## View in 3D
If your phone has a compass, you will see a "View in 3D" button. Clicking this will open the Augmented Reality tool with the selected date and allow you to see where the sun and moon will be throughout the day using your camera.

You can choose to disable the camera when clicked by disabling the "Settings > Astronomy > Use camera for 3D viewing" setting.

## Quick action
You can enable the Sunset Alert quick action in the settings for the tab where you want it to appear.

To use the quick action, tap the sunset alert quick action button to toggle it on or off.

	guide_tool_augmented_reality.txt:1	The Augmented Reality tool lets you see beacons and the paths of the sun and moon overlaid onto the real world. ## Camera If you have camera permission granted, you will see a live camera feed in the background. If you do not have camera permission granted, you will see a black background instead. You can toggle the camera on and off by tapping the camera icon in the top-right corner of the screen. Additionally, while the camera is active, you can adjust the zoom level using two fingers to pinch or the slider at the bottom of the screen. ## Reticle A circular reticle is displayed in the center of your screen. You can use this to see more details about the marker you are looking at by centering it in the reticle. ## Beacons Nearby beacons are displayed as markers on the screen. You can tap on a beacon to start navigation (See the Navigation section below). The view distance can be adjusted in Settings > Augmented Reality > Beacons > "View distance". ## Paths Nearby paths are displayed below your feet. Due to GPS inaccuracy, the paths may not be perfectly aligned with the real world. The view distance can be adjusted in Settings > Augmented Reality > Paths > "View distance" You can choose to adjust paths using their recorded elevation by enabling Settings > Augmented Reality > "Use path elevation". This should make the paths line up better with hills and valleys, but is dependent on the accuracy of the elevation data. ## Sun / moon The paths that the sun and moon will take today are displayed as markers on the screen. The sun's path is displayed in yellow and the moon's path is displayed in white. A larger marker is displayed at the current time, and will also show the moon phase. Times in the past are lighter. If you bring the sun or moon into the reticle, you will see more details about the marker such as the time. If you tapped the "View in 3D" button on the Astronomy tool, you can use the guide to see where the sun or moon currently is and change the previewed date in the bottom panel. ## Grid / compass A grid is displayed on the screen to help orient you. The grid is aligned with the cardinal directions and is spaced at 30 degrees. The grid line for north is highlighted in orange. The cardinal directions are displayed over the grid. ## Orientation The orientation of your device is displayed at the top of the screen. This includes the compass bearing and the tilt angle. The Augmented Reality tool respects the true north setting found on Settings > Sensors > Compass > True north. ## Navigation Tap on a beacon to navigate to it. While navigating, you will see an arrow around the reticle pointing in the direction of the beacon. Move your phone toward the arrow to bring the beacon into view. When the beacon is in the reticle, the arrow will disappear. ## Calibration If the Augmented Reality tool is not aligned with the real world, you can calibrate it by tapping the compass icon in the top-left corner of the screen. This will prompt you to center either the sun or moon in the reticle and click "Calibrate". Always check the accuracy against the sun, moon, or known landmarks before using this tool. Depending on the quality of your phone's sensors, you may need to repeat calibration frequently. You will not be able to calibration on a moonless night. If your device has a gyroscope, calibrating will switch the tool to use the gyroscope for orientation. You can disable this in Settings > Augmented Reality > "Use gyroscope after calibration". To reset the calibration, long press the compass icon or close and reopen the tool. ### Accuracy The accuracy of the compass and GPS are shown in the bottom-left of the screen. You can tap the status icons to see more details about the accuracy and for further instructions on calibrating your compass. ## Sensors The Augmented Reality tool respects the compass source in Settings > Sensors > Compass > Source. If your device does not have a gyroscope, the tool will still work but will not be as accurate and may jitter. ## Layers You can toggle the visibility of the beacons, paths, astronomy, and grid layers by clicking the layer icon in the top-left corner of the screen or by changing the "Visible" setting in Settings > Augmented Reality. The preview date for the astronomy layer can be adjusted in the layers menu on the Augmented Reality tool.
	guide_tool_battery.txt:1	The Battery tool can be used to monitor battery consumption. ## Time until charged / dead The Battery tool will provide an estimate (based on the last day's history) of how long it will take for your phone to die or become fully charged. The actual time may vary with use. ## Battery statistics The battery indicator shows the current battery percentage and, if supported, the remaining capacity (in mAh). Below that, you can see how fast your device is currently charging or discharging. Additionally, if your battery health is poor, you will see a warning. ## Battery history You can view the history of battery percentage by clicking the chart icon in the top-right corner. This displays the last day's history, as recorded by Trail Sense. The history is updated about every hour, you can disable this in 'Settings > Battery > Battery log'. If this is disabled, you will no longer see battery history and may not see time until full or empty. ## System settings To access system battery settings and usage, click the settings icon in the top-right corner. ## Power saving mode By turning on 'Power saving mode', you can reduce the power consumption of Trail Sense by stopping some services, such as Backtrack and Weather, as well as using the black theme. You can activate this by using the 'Power saving mode' switch on the battery tool. You can configure power saving mode to activate automatically when your battery is low by enabling 'Settings > Battery > Automatic power saving'. ## Services Running services are listed below the battery statistics. You can see how often they are running and how much impact they have on battery life. You can stop a service by clicking the 'X' button next to it. ## Quick action You can enable the Power Saving Mode quick action in the settings for the tab you want it on. To use the quick action, tap the power saving mode quick action button to toggle it on or off. ## Additional tips - Enable your phone's battery saver mode. - Reduce screen brightness. - Turn on airplane mode (you won't be able to receive calls/texts). - Turn off your screen when not in use.
	guide_tool_beacons.txt:1	The Beacons tool can be used to save locations and navigate to them later. ## Creating a beacon 1. Tap the '+' button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. 2. Click 'Beacon'. 3. Enter a name for the beacon. 4. Enter a location for the beacon. You can tap the GPS icon next to the location field to use your current location. 5. Fill out any of the optional fields you want to record. 6. Click the checkmark button in the top-right corner of the screen. ### Optional fields - Elevation: The elevation of the beacon. You can click the elevation icon next to the elevation field to use your current elevation. - Create at distance: If you want to place a beacon at a known distance and direction from a location, you can toggle this on. You will then need to enter the distance away and set the direction to the new location before you can save the beacon. The new beacon will be placed at the distance and direction away from the location entered above. - Group: The group to add the beacon to. Tap a group and click 'OK' to add the beacon to that group. To create a new group, see the 'Organizing beacons' section below. - Color: The color to use for the beacon. - Icon: The icon to use for the beacon. - Notes: Any notes you want to record about the beacon. ### Creating from a QR code Beacons can be shared as a QR code by clicking the menu button on the beacon row you want to share, then selecting 'Share...'. You can then share the QR code with Trail Sense to create a beacon from it. 1. Tap the '+' button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. 2. Click 'QR code'. 3. Scan the QR code you want to create a beacon from. 4. Follow the steps above to fill out the beacon information. Any information from the QR code will be prefilled. ### Creating from a GPX file If you have locations saved in a GPX file, you can import them into Trail Sense as beacons. 1. Tap the '+' button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. 2. Click 'GPX file'. 3. Select the GPX file you want to load beacons from. 4. Confirm that you want to import the beacons by clicking 'OK'. You can uncheck any beacons you don't want to import. 5. The beacons will be created in the current group. ## Viewing a beacon Beacons will be shown in the beacon list and will display the distance to the beacon from your current location. To open a beacon, click the beacon in the list. This will open the beacon details page. The following information will be shown: - Name: The name of the beacon. - Location: The location of the beacon. - Elevation: The elevation of the beacon. - Distance: The distance to the beacon from your current location. - Historic high/low temperature: The historical average high and low temperature for the beacon's location. See the 'Climate' guide for more information. - Sunrise/sunset: The sunrise and sunset times for the beacon's location. - Notes: Any notes you recorded about the beacon. ## Navigate to a beacon To navigate to a beacon, open the beacon you want to navigate to and click the 'Navigate' button at the bottom. This will open the navigation tool with the beacon as the destination. Alternatively, you can click the menu button on the beacon row you want to navigate to, then select 'Navigate'. See the 'Navigation' guide for more information on how to use the navigation tool. ## Beacon visibility You can choose which beacons are visible on the Navigation and Photo Maps tools by clicking the eye icon on the right side of the beacon row. This will toggle the visibility of the beacon. ## Share a beacon You can share a beacon by clicking the menu button on the beacon row you want to share, then selecting 'Share...'. Alternatively, open the beacon and click the menu button in the top-right, then choose 'Share...'. You can choose from the following options: - Copy: Copies the beacon details to your clipboard. - QR code: Shares a QR code for the beacon. - Maps: Shares the beacon to a maps application. - Send: Shares the beacon details to another app as text. ## Edit a beacon To edit a beacon, open the beacon and click the edit button at the bottom. Alternatively, click the menu button on the beacon row you want to edit, then select 'Edit'. See the 'Creating a beacon' section above for information on the fields you can edit. ## Delete a beacon To delete a beacon, click the menu button on the beacon row you want to remove, then select 'Delete'. Alternatively, open the beacon, click the menu button in the top-right, and choose 'Delete'. ## Exporting beacons To export beacons, open the group you want to export and click the menu button in the top-right corner of the screen. Select 'Export', unselect any beacons you don't want to export, then click 'OK'. The beacons will be exported to a GPX file. ## Organizing beacons You can organize beacons into groups. To create a group, click the '+' button in the bottom-right of the beacon list and select 'Group'. Give the group a name and click 'OK'. Click the group in the list to view the beacons in that group. If you create a beacon or group while the group is open, the new beacon or group will be added to the currently open group. To change the group of an existing beacon, click the menu button on the beacon row you want to move, select 'Move to', and choose the target group. To rename a group, click the menu button on the group row you want to rename, then select 'Rename' and provide a new name. You can delete a group (along with all beacons within it) by clicking the menu button on the group row you wish to remove, then selecting 'Delete'. ## Searching for beacons To search through your created beacons, use the search bar at the top of the beacon list. This search encompasses the current group and all subgroups. Additionally, you can sort beacons by distance, time, or name by clicking the menu button in the top-right and selecting 'Sort'. ## Last cell signal beacon If you have Backtrack enabled (see the 'Paths' guide) and it is configured to record cell signal, you will see a beacon created for the last known location where you had a cell signal. You can disable this beacon in Settings > Paths > 'Last signal beacon'. You can also choose to navigate to the nearest cell signal by clicking the menu button at the top-right of the beacon list and selecting 'Navigate to nearest cell signal'. This will start navigation to the nearest recorded location that has a cell signal. ## Quick action You can enable the Create Beacon quick action in the settings for the desired tab. To use the quick action, tap the Beacon quick action button to create a beacon at your current location. The title of the beacon will be set to the current date and time. Once created you will see a notification at the bottom of the screen with a button to view the beacon.
	guide_tool_bubble_level.txt:1	The Bubble Level tool can be used to determine if a surface is flat. This can be helpful for setting up a tent or a cooking stove. ## Determine if a surface is flat To determine if a surface is flat: 1. Place the device flat on the surface. 2. Wait for the bubble level to settle. 3. If the bubble is centered, the surface is flat. If the bubble is to the left of the screen, the surface is higher on the left side. If the bubble is at the top of the screen, the surface is higher on the top side. The exact angle of the surface in degrees on the X (left/right) and Y (top/bottom) axis is displayed at the top. It is also possible to hold the device on its side to measure an angle and use the Y axis to measure the angle.
	guide_tool_cliff_height.txt:1	The Cliff Height tool can be used to estimate the height of a cliff. ## Estimating height 1. Ensure the area below the cliff is safe (no risk of landslides or people/animals). 2. Drop a small rock or similar object down the cliff while holding the measure button. 3. Release the button when the object hits the bottom. 4. The height of the cliff will be displayed at the top of the screen. ## Disclaimer You are responsible for ensuring that you use this tool in a safe manner. Please only use it when it is safe to do so, and do not stand too close to the cliff.

The X-axis is time, and the Y-axis is the altitude or height in the sky. You can tap on the sun or moon icon in the chart to see its current position. When you do this, a slider will appear so you can see its position at a different time of the day. You can also choose to keep the current time centered in the chart by enabling 'Keep sun/moon centered' in Settings > Astronomy. It is completely dark, but it is perfect for stargazing. - Peak altitude: This is the highest point the sun reaches in the sky. It is shown in degrees above the horizon. - Daylight: This is the amount of time when the sun is up. - Night: This is the amount of time when the sun is down. - Season: This is the astronomical season based on the Earth's position around the sun. It will be one of the following: spring, summer, fall, or winter. - Altitude: This is the current angle of the sun above the horizon. It is shown in degrees. ## Moon The time of moonrise, moonset, and lunar noon are shown below the chart, as well as the current moon phase and illumination percentage. If you tap this section, you will see more details about the moon for the current day: - Times: This is the time of moonrise, moonset, and lunar noon. - Moon phase: This is the current phase of the moon as it appears in the sky. - Illumination: This is the percentage of the moon that is illuminated. A full moon is 100% illuminated, and a new moon is 0% illuminated. - Peak altitude: This is the highest point the moon reaches in the sky. It is shown in degrees above the horizon. - Supermoon: This is when the moon is closer to the Earth than normal, making it appear larger and brighter in the sky. ## Meteor showers If a meteor shower peak is happening on the selected date at your location, it will show in the list. It displays the start, peak, and end times of the shower, as well as the average number of meteors per hour. You can tap on the shower to see more details: - Times: This is the start, peak, and end times of the shower. - Name: This is the name of the shower. - Rate: This is the average number of meteors per hour. - Peak altitude: This is the highest point the radiant (area where the meteors appear to come from) reaches in the sky. It is shown in degrees above the horizon. - Peak direction: This is the direction the radiant is in. ## Lunar eclipses If a lunar eclipse is happening on the selected date at your location, it will show in the list. To set an alert, open Settings > Astronomy and enable 'Sunset alerts'. You can adjust the 'Sunset alert time' setting to determine how far in advance you want to be notified. There is also a quick action available for the sunset alert. See below for more information. ## Astronomy alerts Alerts can be set for astronomical events to ensure you don't miss them. To set an alert, open Settings > Astronomy and enable the alerts you want to be notified about for your location. You can receive notifications for meteor showers, lunar eclipses, and solar eclipses. The alert will be shown up to 24 hours in advance of the event start time. ## View in 3D If your phone has a compass, you will see a "View in 3D" button. Clicking this will open the Augmented Reality tool with the selected date and allow you to see where the sun and moon will be throughout the day using your camera. You can choose to disable the camera when clicked by disabling the "Settings > Astronomy > Use camera for 3D viewing" setting. ## Quick action You can enable the Sunset Alert quick action in the settings for the tab where you want it to appear. To use the quick action, tap the sunset alert quick action button to toggle it on or off.

You can use this to see more details about the marker you are looking at by centering it in the reticle. ## Beacons Nearby beacons are displayed as markers on the screen. You can tap on a beacon to start navigation (See the Navigation section below). The view distance can be adjusted in Settings > Augmented Reality > Beacons > "View distance". ## Paths Nearby paths are displayed below your feet. Due to GPS inaccuracy, the paths may not be perfectly aligned with the real world. The view distance can be adjusted in Settings > Augmented Reality > Paths > "View distance" You can choose to adjust paths using their recorded elevation by enabling Settings > Augmented Reality > "Use path elevation". This should make the paths line up better with hills and valleys, but is dependent on the accuracy of the elevation data. ## Sun / moon The paths that the sun and moon will take today are displayed as markers on the screen. The sun's path is displayed in yellow and the moon's path is displayed in white. A larger marker is displayed at the current time, and will also show the moon phase. Times in the past are lighter. If you bring the sun or moon into the reticle, you will see more details about the marker such as the time. If you tapped the "View in 3D" button on the Astronomy tool, you can use the guide to see where the sun or moon currently is and change the previewed date in the bottom panel. ## Grid / compass A grid is displayed on the screen to help orient you. The grid is aligned with the cardinal directions and is spaced at 30 degrees. The grid line for north is highlighted in orange. The cardinal directions are displayed over the grid. ## Orientation The orientation of your device is displayed at the top of the screen. This includes the compass bearing and the tilt angle. The Augmented Reality tool respects the true north setting found on Settings > Sensors > Compass > True north. ## Navigation Tap on a beacon to navigate to it. While navigating, you will see an arrow around the reticle pointing in the direction of the beacon. Move your phone toward the arrow to bring the beacon into view. When the beacon is in the reticle, the arrow will disappear. ## Calibration If the Augmented Reality tool is not aligned with the real world, you can calibrate it by tapping the compass icon in the top-left corner of the screen. This will prompt you to center either the sun or moon in the reticle and click "Calibrate". Always check the accuracy against the sun, moon, or known landmarks before using this tool. Depending on the quality of your phone's sensors, you may need to repeat calibration frequently. You will not be able to calibration on a moonless night. If your device has a gyroscope, calibrating will switch the tool to use the gyroscope for orientation. You can disable this in Settings > Augmented Reality > "Use gyroscope after calibration". To reset the calibration, long press the compass icon or close and reopen the tool. ### Accuracy The accuracy of the compass and GPS are shown in the bottom-left of the screen. You can tap the status icons to see more details about the accuracy and for further instructions on calibrating your compass. ## Sensors The Augmented Reality tool respects the compass source in Settings > Sensors > Compass > Source. If your device does not have a gyroscope, the tool will still work but will not be as accurate and may jitter. ## Layers You can toggle the visibility of the beacons, paths, astronomy, and grid layers by clicking the layer icon in the top-left corner of the screen or by changing the "Visible" setting in Settings > Augmented Reality. The actual time may vary with use. ## Battery statistics The battery indicator shows the current battery percentage and, if supported, the remaining capacity (in mAh). Below that, you can see how fast your device is currently charging or discharging. Additionally, if your battery health is poor, you will see a warning. ## Battery history You can view the history of battery percentage by clicking the chart icon in the top-right corner. This displays the last day's history, as recorded by Trail Sense. The history is updated about every hour, you can disable this in 'Settings > Battery > Battery log'. If this is disabled, you will no longer see battery history and may not see time until full or empty. ## System settings To access system battery settings and usage, click the settings icon in the top-right corner. ## Power saving mode By turning on 'Power saving mode', you can reduce the power consumption of Trail Sense by stopping some services, such as Backtrack and Weather, as well as using the black theme. You can activate this by using the 'Power saving mode' switch on the battery tool. You can configure power saving mode to activate automatically when your battery is low by enabling 'Settings > Battery > Automatic power saving'. ## Services Running services are listed below the battery statistics. You can see how often they are running and how much impact they have on battery life. You can stop a service by clicking the 'X' button next to it. ## Quick action You can enable the Power Saving Mode quick action in the settings for the tab you want it on. To use the quick action, tap the power saving mode quick action button to toggle it on or off. ## Additional tips - Enable your phone's battery saver mode. - Reduce screen brightness. - Turn on airplane mode (you won't be able to receive calls/texts). - Turn off your screen when not in use.

Fill out any of the optional fields you want to record. 6. Click the checkmark button in the top-right corner of the screen. ### Optional fields - Elevation: The elevation of the beacon. You can click the elevation icon next to the elevation field to use your current elevation. - Create at distance: If you want to place a beacon at a known distance and direction from a location, you can toggle this on. You will then need to enter the distance away and set the direction to the new location before you can save the beacon. The new beacon will be placed at the distance and direction away from the location entered above. - Group: The group to add the beacon to. Tap a group and click 'OK' to add the beacon to that group. To create a new group, see the 'Organizing beacons' section below. - Color: The color to use for the beacon. - Icon: The icon to use for the beacon. - Notes: Any notes you want to record about the beacon. ### Creating from a QR code Beacons can be shared as a QR code by clicking the menu button on the beacon row you want to share, then selecting 'Share...'. You can then share the QR code with Trail Sense to create a beacon from it. 1. Tap the '+' button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. 2. Click 'QR code'. 3. Scan the QR code you want to create a beacon from. 4. Follow the steps above to fill out the beacon information. Any information from the QR code will be prefilled. ### Creating from a GPX file If you have locations saved in a GPX file, you can import them into Trail Sense as beacons. 1. Tap the '+' button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. 2. Click 'GPX file'. 3. Select the GPX file you want to load beacons from. 4. Confirm that you want to import the beacons by clicking 'OK'. You can uncheck any beacons you don't want to import. 5. The beacons will be created in the current group. ## Viewing a beacon Beacons will be shown in the beacon list and will display the distance to the beacon from your current location. To open a beacon, click the beacon in the list. This will open the beacon details page. The following information will be shown: - Name: The name of the beacon. - Location: The location of the beacon. - Elevation: The elevation of the beacon. - Distance: The distance to the beacon from your current location. - Historic high/low temperature: The historical average high and low temperature for the beacon's location. See the 'Navigation' guide for more information on how to use the navigation tool. ## Beacon visibility You can choose which beacons are visible on the Navigation and Photo Maps tools by clicking the eye icon on the right side of the beacon row. This will toggle the visibility of the beacon. ## Share a beacon You can share a beacon by clicking the menu button on the beacon row you want to share, then selecting 'Share...'. Alternatively, open the beacon and click the menu button in the top-right, then choose 'Share...'. You can choose from the following options: - Copy: Copies the beacon details to your clipboard. - QR code: Shares a QR code for the beacon. - Maps: Shares the beacon to a maps application. - Send: Shares the beacon details to another app as text. ## Edit a beacon To edit a beacon, open the beacon and click the edit button at the bottom. Alternatively, click the menu button on the beacon row you want to edit, then select 'Edit'. See the 'Creating a beacon' section above for information on the fields you can edit. ## Delete a beacon To delete a beacon, click the menu button on the beacon row you want to remove, then select 'Delete'. This search encompasses the current group and all subgroups. Additionally, you can sort beacons by distance, time, or name by clicking the menu button in the top-right and selecting 'Sort'. ## Last cell signal beacon If you have Backtrack enabled (see the 'Paths' guide) and it is configured to record cell signal, you will see a beacon created for the last known location where you had a cell signal. You can disable this beacon in Settings > Paths > 'Last signal beacon'. You can also choose to navigate to the nearest cell signal by clicking the menu button at the top-right of the beacon list and selecting 'Navigate to nearest cell signal'.
