The priority indicated also covers messages of equal or higher priority; thus <literal>auth.alert</literal> indicates the <literal>auth</literal> subsystem messages of <literal>alert</literal> or <literal>emerg</literal> priority. Prefixed with an exclamation point (!), it indicates the opposite, in other words the strictly lower priorities; <literal>auth.!notice</literal>, thus, indicates messages issued from <literal>auth</literal>, with <literal>info</literal> or <literal>debug</literal> priority.
