In order to get information from an external MIDI device into Sonic Pi we first need to connect it to our computer. Typically this will be via a USB connection, although older equipment will have a 5-pin DIN connector for which you'll need hardware support for your computer (for example, some sound cards have MIDI DIN connectors). Once you've connected your device, launch Sonic Pi and take a look at the IO section of the Preferences panel. You should see your device listed there - devices are detected automatically, even when plugged in while Sonic Pi is running. If it doesn't appear, try unplugging it and plugging it back in. If you're still not seeing anything, the next thing to try is to consult your operating system's MIDI config to see if it sees your device. Per poter ricevere informazioni da un dispositivo MIDI esterno in Sonic Pi dobbiamo innanzitutto collegarlo al nostro computer. Tipicamente questo avviene via USB anche se dispositivi più vecchi possono avere il connettore DIN a 5 pin, per il quale servirà hardware specifico (ad esempio una scheda audio con connettori MIDI DIN). Una volta collegato il dispositivo, lancia Sonic Pi e controlla la sezione IO nel pannello preferenze. Dovresti vedere il tuo dispositivo elencato qui. Se non è così, prova a premere il tasto 'Reset MIDI' e controlla se compare. Se ancora non vedi la periferica, la prossima cosa da fare è controllare la configurazione MIDI del tuo sistema operativo e controllare se rileva il tuo dispositivo. Note that `play_pattern` and `play_pattern_timed` stretch the `sustain:` of each note to fill the time until the next one. This is different from a plain `play`, which uses its normal envelope and lets the note fade away. Stretching the sustain like this lets melodies and chords flow smoothly from one note into the next without you having to set envelope opts every time. If you'd prefer the notes to use their normal envelopes, set the `sustain:` opt to `0`:
