<p>Indicator 5.3.2: Proportion of girls and women aged 15-49 years who have undergone female genital mutilation/cutting<sup><a href="#footnote-2" id="footnote-ref-2">[1]</a></sup>, by age</p><div class="footnotes"><div><sup class="footnote-number" id="footnote-2">1</sup><p> The official indicator name refers to &#x2018;female genital mutilation/cutting&#x2019;, or FGM/C. In recent years the convention within UNICEF and partner organizations has shifted to referring to &#x2018;female genital mutilation&#x2019;, or FGM, a term which is now used interchangeably with FGM/C throughout the metadata. Other common terms for the practice include &#x2018;female circumcision&#x2019; and &#x2018;excision&#x2019;. The custodian will request the IAEG-SDGs to consider a refinement of the indicator name to reflect this change for consideration at the UN Statistical Commission in 2023. <a href="#footnote-ref-2">&#x2191;</a></p></div></div&#x2013;49 years who have undergone female genital mutilation, by age</p>

<p>Nationally representative prevalence data are currently available for 30 low- and middle-income countries</p>
<p><strong>Time series: </strong></p>
<p>At the country level, the latest available data for indicator 5.3.2 are published. At the regional level, time series estimates for indicator 5.3.2 (as measured among adolescent girls aged 15-19 years) are published for 5-year intervals beginning from 2000.</p>
<p><strong>Disaggregation:</strong></p>
<p>Age (15-49 years at the national level, 15-19 years at the regional level)</p>
