Good point. Another possibility would be just "Draw" (and the freehand tool label shortened to "Freehand"), but this still isn't perfect. Perhaps best left unchanged if it's going to create a new misunderstanding?

Understood, but OTOH I wonder if people will understand that they can draw straight lines with the "Draw curve" tool?

Could this english text be changed to something like "Draw curve" ? The existing "Draw paths" would be taken by most people to mean draw some footpaths
