Instructions for translators

Translation Guidelines for this Kotlin/Android project:

  • Do not translate placeholders like %1$s, %d, %s — keep them as is.

    • Example: "Welcome, %1$s!" → "Bienvenue, %1$s!" (not "Bienvenue, %1$s !")

  • Do not translate values inside XML tags or variables in curly braces {}.

  • Keep punctuation consistent with the original (e.g., periods, exclamation marks).

  • Maintain capitalization where appropriate (e.g., for button labels or titles).

  • Use concise and natural phrases in the target language.

  • Brand names (e.g., "Google", "Play Store", "GitHub") should not be translated.

  • If unsure, leave a suggestion or comment instead of guessing.

  • Context: This is a Kotlin-based Android app. Strings appear in UI elements like buttons, alerts, menus, etc.

Announcement posted

Hello, I had locked language creation in the InnerTune and Metrolist projects, so that I would be notified instead and I could approve it, I ended up never actually adding any due to the rarity of the new languages, because of that I'm opening that again, if you couldn't create a language in the InnerTune-side strings, now you should try it again and there won't be any friction.

If you were pending changes from that, they are now in a PR for review and should be merged shortly, sorry for the delay

If you're translating Metrolist, don't forget to also translate the original InnerTune strings! We recycle the translations from upstream. If you don't, only features specific to Metrolist will be translated, and the main things won't.
