Instructions for translators

Thanks for helping to translate CENO!

To get started:

  1. Make an account on Weblate or sign in with your Github or Gitlab ID. Note: Account creation is not required, but you will only be able to suggest translations in this case

  2. Visit the Censorship.no project page - which lists all components and their strings (including Android app strings, the web browser extension, the User Manual and the website).

  3. On the Censorship.no project page's 'Languages' tab, choose the language you want to work on, or -- in case the language doesn't exist yet -- initiate a new language by selecting a component from the main project page and clicking on the "Start a new translation" button. Please note that we can't support shipping arbitrary translations with our published materials unless they have a reviewer (see below).

  4. Please contact the CENO team at cenoers AT equalit DOT ie if you are interested in becoming a reviewer for translation(s) in your language(s).

  5. If you plan to translate the User Manual, please get acquainted with Markdown first (e.g. with this cheatsheet).

Ceno Browser is an example of an application that uses Ouinet technology to retrieve and share Web content. We call such an application a Ouinet **client**. When you use your client (i.e. Ceno) to try to access some content *X*, hosted on a Web server (which we will call *X*'s **origin** server), your client tries to contact the origin server over the Internet either directly or via some other machine configured to contact Web servers on behalf of others (a so-called **proxy** server) and then requests the desired content. This is no different from the way in which any normal Web browser works.
Ceno Browser è un esempio di applicaazione che usa la tecnologia Ouinet per ottenere e condividere contenuti Web. Un'applicazione di questo genere si chiama **client**. Qunado usi il tuo client (Ceno) per tentare di accedere ad un contenuto *X*, ospitato su un server Web (che chiameremo server **di origine** di **X**), il tuo client prova a contattare il server di origine direttamente attraverso Internet o tramite qualche altra macchina configurata per contattare il server Web per conto di altri (un cosiddetto server **proxy**) e poi, dopo di chè richiede il contenuto desiderato. Di fatto funziona come ogni altro server Web.
